About Robin Potts, CPA
Principal
Robin is a financial leader with more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit and public accounting sectors.
Her work at Potts Business Consulting LLC draws on nearly two decades of nonprofit finance experience, anchored by her tenure as Chief Financial Officer of Harvesters – The Community Food Network, a large regional food bank. Robin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and has been a licensed CPA since 2001. She began her career in public accounting with CBIZ, where she developed the technical foundation for her career as a CPA. Later, she joined Harvesters, serving in progressively responsible finance roles and ultimately as CFO. In that role, she oversaw all aspects of the organization’s finance function and shared in organizational leadership as a member of the executive team.
Among her professional honors, Robin was named a CFO of the Year by the Kansas City Business Journal and received a CBIZ Women Transforming Business award. She is a past chair of the Feeding America National Financial Leaders Steering Committee, an alumna of the Greater Missouri Leadership Challenge, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Robin’s Story
As a nonprofit finance leader, I faced a conundrum that was familiar to many of the CFOs I knew. We wanted to do exceptional work, but talent shortages and unpredictable demands sometimes pushed the work beyond our teams’ capacity.
As a short-term solution, bringing in outside help should have been an obvious option. But finding the right person and bringing them up to speed often seemed harder than doing the work ourselves.
For the long term, I knew we needed to better align the two sides of the equation — the work the organization needed from Finance, and the talent required to do it well. Better alignment meant mapping them together in a structured way. I could find plenty of general guidance, but not a practical, plain-language tool for making this connection.
I started Potts Business Consulting to be the resource I wished I’d had. PBC provides experienced, hands-on help when Finance’s workload exceeds its capacity. PBC also developed a custom framework to help organizations build more intentional Finance functions.
